Nannies come together ...

Nannies across the country are coming together to celebrate NNRW next week. While they are busy preparing outings, brunches, get-together's and more, I wanted to share with you a wonderful story how nannies and this industry came together to help a child with cancer.

Ryan Rocks! How the Nanny Community has rallied around a child fighting cancer.

If you have ever cared for a young child-your own or your charges-ryanchances are you have come across Robert Munsch's classic book "I'll Love You Forever." Recently I have been following the real life story of a little boy named Ryan, learned of his tremendous need and I have been awed by the response of the nanny community.

"I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be."

Nanny Tara began caring for 6-month-old Ryan 7 years ago. As Ryan grew, Tara eventually moved on to other families. She stayed in touch, perhaps more so than many nannies would because her new charges attended the same preschool as Ryan.

Late last summer, at the age of 6, Ryan was diagnosed with cancer. While no type of cancer is good, this was a particularly ugly, aggressive and debilitating non-Hodgkins lymphoma known as Burkitt's Lymphoma. Ryan was hospitalized while he lost the use of his legs, the control of his bowels, and was in tremendous pain. Ryan's family, friends, and Tara were devastated.
